This Year, September Brings More Bangin' Records

September is just around the corner, we’re approaching Record Store Day Drop #2 and it’s still 100 degrees in Texas. Maybe it’s best to just stay inside, spin some records and try to relax with a few new releases. (All available to pre-order through Curious Collections.)

Marilyn Manson - We Are Chaos (9/11)

It’s been a while since the glory days of Marilyn Manson, but his last album was a good return to form. Your mileage may vary on this one as you have to really want to listen to Marilyn Manson to need a new Marilyn Manson.

John Prine - John Prine / Sweet Revenge / Diamonds In The Rough / Common Sense (9/18)

The Covid-19 pandemic has exacted a terrible price on the United States and on the world and unfortunately, John Prine was a casualty of our fight.  His first four albums are getting a much deserved reissue this month and are absolute must haves.  Insightful, painful, touching, hilarious...all words that still don’t quite describe how wonderful his music truly is.  Do yourself a favor and pick up some of these.  If your tastes run Americana or singer-songwriter and you don’t have any John Prine, then you are missing out on everything you need.

PJ Harvey - To Bring You My Love / To Bring You My Love Demos (9/11)

I know I keep going on about these PJ Harvey reissues, but they’re all so good.  Another set comes out this month and will be worth picking up. To Bring You My Love is probably one of my favorite PJ Harvey albums, so I can’t wait for this one to come out.

Run The Jewels - RTJ 4 (9/18)

I don’t think there’s much I need to say here.  It’s Run The Jewels.  It’s their new album. It’s f’n amazing and you f’n need it now. To me, this is the best act in all of rap/hip-hop right now.

Guns ‘N Roses - Greatest Hits (9/25)

Originally released in 2004, this will be the first vinyl release for GNR’s Greatest Hits. Featuring 13 tracks from their pre-breakup studio albums, their cover of the Rolling Stones classic “Sympathy For The Devil” from the Interview With A Vampire soundtrack and now the addition of the Appetite For Destruction leftover “Shadow of Your Love” that finally saw a release a few years ago for the 30th Anniversary of that LP.  If you need a good overview of this classic metal band, this is the one to grab.

Sufjan Stevens - The Ascension (9/25)

Stevens previous LP, Carrie & Lowell, was a gut punch LP filled with loss and family strife, but also an incredible and moving piece of work.  His followup, The Ascension is finally coming out this month.  Its 12 minute lead single, America, is already out and is fantastic.  I’m a huge fan of everything Sufjan Stevens has done over his career, so this would be a must buy for me under any circumstance.
