After spending the last 20 years on a major label, indie-rock icons Death Cab For Cutie have officially signed to the legendary independent label ANTI- Records (the home of artists like Tom Waits and Fleet Foxes). Their 11th studio album, I Built You A Tower, marks a new chapter that celebrates the DIY spirit that first put them on the map.
To celebrate, we’re hosting a nationwide release party on Saturday, June 6th @ 6 PM, and you’re invited to hear the record early and walk away with some exclusive DCFC history.

🎸 Nearly 30 Years of Death Cab: A Journey
The story of Death Cab For Cutie began in 1997 in the college town of Bellingham, Washington. What started as a solo project for frontman Ben Gibbard quickly grew into a full band that defined the "earnest" sound of the Pacific Northwest.
- The Indie Incubator: Their early years on Barsuk Records gave us cult classics like Something About Airplanes and The Photo Album. By the time they released the critical masterpiece Transatlanticism in 2003, they weren't just a local band anymore—they were the voice of a generation.
- Mainstream Breakthrough: In 2005, the band made the leap to Atlantic Records with Plans. Songs like "I Will Follow You into the Dark" and "Soul Meets Body" became global anthems, leading to a string of Grammy nominations and platinum records.
- The Return to Indie: From the dark textures of Narrow Stairs to the experimental synth-driven Asphalt Meadows, the band has never stopped evolving. Now, by joining the ANTI- roster, they are reconnecting with the independent record store community that supported them from day one.
