Stepping Into Herself: About the Artist & The Record

Gracie Abrams has captured the hearts of an entire generation by writing about the kind of quiet, searing heartbreak that stays with you long after the music stops. Following up on her universally acclaimed, chart-topping sophomore album The Secret of Us (2024), Daughter from Hell marks a beautiful, mature step forward in her songwriting journey.

Created primarily alongside her longtime collaborator and producer Aaron Dessner (of The National) at legendary spots like Long Pond Studio and Electric Lady, the 16-track album is incredibly grounded. Gracie has shared that many of these songs emerged from heavy emotions and life experiences she had previously avoided confronting while touring. The creative process served as a therapeutic way to ground herself after her nervous system was rocked by sudden, massive fame.

As for the striking album title, Daughter from Hell, Gracie revealed it was inspired by reflections on personal growth and emotional maturity in her twenties. It's about gaining distance from "old ways of being," repairing fragile relationships, recognizing unhealthy behavioral patterns, and realizing she wasn't always a perfect daughter during her turbulent teenage years. Driven by stunning singles like the vulnerable "Hit the Wall" and the recently released "Look at My Life", the project explores the profound journey of stepping into yourself. The album also features exciting collaborations, including the track "What If It's Right?" featuring Marcus Mumford.
