Record Store Day 2022 Alternative Releases

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Live Seeds - Probably my most sought after RSD 2022 release, this 13 song 2LP Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds live LP is going to be pure fire. Recorded during the 92-93 Henry’s Dream tour, Live Seeds finds the band burning through classics like “Tupelo”, “Papa Won’t Leave You, Henry”, “The Mercy Seat” & “Jack The Ripper.” The second I get home from RSD, this one is hitting the turntable.

The Cure - Pornography - It really feels like it wouldn’t be Record Store Day without The Cure releasing a picture disc. Luckily, we aren’t going to be let down this year since we are getting a picture disc copy of the classic 4th album, Pornography. A dark, brooding goth masterpiece, this is one of the most classic albums in The Cure’s discography.

Echo & The Bunnymen - B-Sides & Live (2001-2005) - This compilation assembles a number of tracks from the band during their late career reformation. This release has only been available digitally before now. Stand out tracks include acoustic versions of “Make Me Shine” and “Nothing Lasts Forever” along with recordings of “Killing Moon” and “Lips Like Sugar” from the 2005 Reading Festival. It’s hard for me to pass up anything from this legendary band.

5000 copies/Clear vinyl

Joan Jett & The Blackhearts - Acoustics - The original Riot-grrrl(long before it was a thing), Joan Jett changed the way people looked at female rock stars. This eight-song collection is made up of five newly recorded acoustic tracks and three previously unreleased acoustic versions exclusive to this release, including hits "I Hate Myself For Loving You" and "Bad Reputation (Live In Los Angeles)”.

Pixies - Live at Coachella 2004 - Not many bands are as near and dear to my heart as the Pixies are. After a decade-long hiatus, alternative rock legends Pixies reunited for a triumphant set at Coachella 2004. Hitting the stage before a headline set by Radiohead, This 21 track live album is filled from start to finish with tracks that you know and love and ones that will have you singing along almost instantly. This is another one of my RSD 2022 must haves.

Iggy Pop - Live In Berlin - Along with picture discs from The Cure & Lou Reed albums, RSD seems to always have an Iggy Pop live album coming out. This year sees a hot 1991 set that features a number of mid-era Pop classics like "Real Wild Child" & "Brick By Brick.”

4000 copies/Orange & Silver 2LP set

The Replacements - Unsuitable for Airplay: The Lost KFAI Concert (Live) - Few bands are as crucial to me as The Replacements. A huge part of who I am as a music fan comes from falling in love with this band in the 1980’s. One of the earliest soundboard recordings of the band, featuring the original lineup of Paul, Bob, Tommy and Chris as captured by Twin/Tone’s mobile unit on January 23, 1981, at the 7th St Entry in Minneapolis, MN. This was part of the Sorry Ma, Forgot To Take Out The Trash set that came out in 2020, but was only on CD. 27 songs and not a single bit of dead weight in the bunch.
