Brand New Heavies - Heavy Rhyme Experience Vol. 1 (30th Anniversary)- I adore this album and have since it came out. Mixing a fantastic funk/soul band with a host of top tier MC’s, Heavy Rhyme Experience is a fantastic album with a foot firmly in multiple genres. Long ahead of its time when it was released in 1992, the album includes airtight rhymes by the likes of Gang Starr (“It’s Gettin’ Hectic”), The Pharcyde (“Soul Flower”), Kool G. Rap (“Death Threat”), and Masta Ace Incorporated (“Wake Me When I’m Dead”), all underscored by the Brand New Heavies’ live, laid-back grooves.

The mixtape features guest verses from rappers Bobby V, Brinx, Busta Rhymes, Drake, Gucci Mane, Mack Maine, Gudda Gudda, Jae Millz, Lil Wayne, Red Café, Ricky Blaze, Rocko, Ron Browz, and singer Shanell. Its production was overseen by DJ Holiday and The Trap-a-Holics.
The mixtape received favorable reviews from music critics, and is also largely credited with establishing Minaj's fan base.
