Look, I’ll be completely honest with you: if you open up my bloodstream right now, it’s about 80% espresso and 20% classic fuzz-tone guitar riffs.

I’m the kind of unapologetic, die-hard Weezer nerd who spent my teenage years analyzing the chord progressions on Pinkerton, obsessing over The Blue Album’s flawless, Ric Ocasek-produced tone, and arguing in record store aisles about why The White Album is an absolute modern masterpiece. I have tracked Rivers Cuomo's songwriting from his garage days all the way through SZNZ, and I can tell you without a shred of hesitation: Weezer is one of the greatest alternative rock bands to ever walk the earth.

From sweeping the world in 1994 with "Buddy Holly" and "Say It Ain't So" to proving their legendary status across three decades, 20 studio albums, and endless arena tours, Rivers, Patrick Wilson, Brian Bell, and Scott Shriner are modern rock royalty.

So when the band dropped a cryptic Instagram post saying "the time for gold is approaching," my jaw hit the floor. Weezer is officially adding a brand-new color to their iconic self-titled pantheon—The Gold Album—dropping Friday, August 21st. But because independent record shops are sacred ground, we get to hear the whole thing early.
