New Releases For June 17

By: the_home_for_wayward_records

Carly Rae Jepsen - Kiss - Previously only available as a limited-edition picture disc, Kiss is now available on standard vinyl as part of the 10th anniversary celebration of the album's release. Features the hit singles, Call Me Maybe and Good Time with Owl City.

David Bowie - The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars - The 50th anniversary of Ziggy Stardust brings us two new versions. The first is a Picture Disc pressing with two promotional posters. The second is the one I want the most though. The other version is a half speed mastered pressing of the 2012 remaster. I have multiple pressings of this, including the 70’s Mobile Fidelity pressing, but I’m always interested in hearing any new pressing that comes out.

Information Society - Information Society [Clear Colored Vinyl] -  Information Society's breakout single from this album, released in 1988, was "What's on Your Mind (Pure Energy)", a synth-pop song, which spent 39 weeks on the dance chart, going straight to number one and also peaked at number three on the Hot 100 pop chart. The track included a vocal sample of Mr. Spock (Leonard Nimoy) from Star Trek, saying "pure energy". The album which was certified gold, also contained the tracks "Walking Away" and "Running", which was initially released in 1985 and reached #2 on the Dance/Club Airplay charts

The Smile - A Light For Attracting Attention - The band, comprising Radiohead’s Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood and Sons of Kemet’s Tom Skinner, have previously released the singles You Will Never Work in Television Again, The Smoke, and Skirting On The Surface to critical acclaim. The 13- track album was produced and mixed by Nigel Godrich and mastered by Bob Ludwig. Tracks feature strings by the London Contemporary Orchestra and a full brass section of contemporary UK jazz players including Byron Wallen, Theon and Nathaniel Cross, Chelsea Carmichael, Robert Stillman and Jason Yarde.

Steel Pulse - True Democracy [Green/Yellow/Red Vinyl] - For the reggae newbie, this should be your next stop after Bob Marley. David Hinds' vocals are peerless, the songs have great melodies and have something to say. Fantastic drummer as well. These guys are from the U.K., not Jamaica, so they are often left out of the discussion. Their more recent stuff is less interesting due to record label interference, but everything through Earth Crisis is vital. True Democracy is an amazingly good reggae album and one that any nascent fan of the genre should look into.
