Band of Horses - Things Are Great - Band of Horses return for their first new album in five years. Sonically, the album is a return to their earlier work and the kind of raw ethos that lies at the heart of Band of Horses. Emotionally intense, both on a personal and elemental level, on Things Are Great we find band founder Ben Bridwell more autobiographical than he’s ever been on record detailing the nebulous frustrations and quiet indignities of relationship changes and what a person will do to make things right.
Biohazard - Urban Discipline - Reissue label Run Out Groove gives us a 30th Anniversary pressing of Biohazard’s second album, Urban Discipline. This is its first US pressing and like all Run Out Groove pressings, it will be strictly limited and worth grabbing if you can. If you like Thrash metal and one of the first big Rap Metal albums, this is one for you.
Guided By Voices - Crystal Nun Cathedral - The mighty Guided By Voices are set to unleash upon the world their 35th and quite possibly... best album, Crystal Nuns Cathedral. How do they do it you might ask? Well we have no idea how they do it, but we certainly do know why they do it. They do it because quite honestly we need them to do it. The world needs The Rock, and we need loud guitars, we need anthemic songs, we need a reason to raise a rock fist in the air and give a "Hell Yeah"! On Crystal Nuns Cathedral, the band delivers all of this and so much more. Just four months since It's Not Them. It Couldn't Be Them. It Is Them!, comes this latest, twelve songs determined to challenge for the title of greatest Guided by Voices album of all-time. I’m a huge fan, so this is a must have for me.
Pink Floyd - The Piper at the Gates of Dawn - Originally released for RSD 2018, this mono version of The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, the debut album by Pink Floyd, gets a full reissue this week. The 2018 pressing sounded incredible and was a highly sought after title, so this will probably sell out pretty fast. I’d say that this will be the definitive edition of this album.
The Lemonheads - It’s A Shame About Ray (30th Anniversary Pressing) - The 30th anniversary reissue comes with bonus tracks and demos and there are four editions: a deluxe ‘bookback’ (aka casebound book) version of both 2CD and 2LP vinyl and then standard editions of both formats. There are five tracks on this new deluxe edition that weren’t included in Rhino’s 2008 double-CD deluxe. These are: ‘My Drug Buddy’ (KCRW Session, 1992), ‘Knowing Me, Knowing You’ (Acoustic), ‘Confetti’ (Acoustic), ‘Alison’s Starting To Happen’ (Acoustic) and ‘Divan’. Also, the Simon and Garfunkel cover, ‘Mrs Robinson’, is now part of the bonus material and not tacked onto the end of the album.‘Shaky Ground’ and all nine album track demos are repeated from the previous deluxe although this is the first time the demos are being issued on vinyl.
