50 Years of Sonic Architecture: About U2
To grasp the magnitude of Carnaval De Luz, you have to look at the sheer endurance of U2's catalog:
Exploding out of Dublin with 1980's Boy and 1983's War, U2 paired rhythmic urgency with earnest sociopolitical commentary ("Sunday Bloody Sunday", "New Year's Day"). 1987's The Joshua Tree catapulted them into global icons, earning Album of the Year at the Grammys and producing timeless anthems like "With or Without You" and "Where the Streets Have No Name". When the world expected them to repeat that formula, they headed to Berlin with Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois to record 1991's Achtung Baby, breaking their sound down with electronic distortion, industrial dance beats, and darker lyrical irony. With 22 Grammy Awards and over 175 million records sold worldwide, U2 has spent decades pushing the boundaries of live performance—from the 360° Claw to launching the technological marvel of the Las Vegas Sphere.
Carnaval De Luz, with a cover that is a clear nod to the Beatles, finds the quartet doing what they do best: writing anthems for a turbulent world with big drums, deep bass, and melodies built to fill a room. A
This album is very special because it also features Dolly Parton's final vocal recording on the track "Torn". Dolly recorded the duet with Bono in June 2026, writing the track alongside the band and Snow Patrol's Johnny McDaid. Don't miss the chance to hear her very special final recording.
Space in our 29th Street shop is limited, so head to our website to RSVP ahead of time, bring your fellow rock fans, and let us experience Carnaval De Luz together on release night.
See you at The Record Garage!
