King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard - Teenage Gizzard (Click to Buy) - Teenage Gizzard is a collection of early non-album singles and rarities that date back to 2010 and 2011, even before their debut album. This has had a few pressings lately, but it’s worth picking up if you haven’t had a chance to snag a copy yet.
King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard - Live In Brussels ‘19 (Click to Buy) - The live albums from King Gizzard are coming fast and furious these days, with Live In Brussels ‘19 arriving this week. Live in Brussels '19 is the third in a trio of benefit live albums with all proceeds going to the Wires Wildlife Rescue, in response to the Australian bushfires of 2019-2020. The album features a set by the band performed at the Ancienne Belgique in Brussels on 8 and 9 October 2019. The tracks come from eight of the band’s albums: Nonagon Infinity, Murder of the Universe, Infest the Rats' Nest, Fishing for Fishies, Gumboot Soup, Paper Mâché Dream Balloon, Oddments, and Float Along – Fill Your Lungs.
Bakar - Nobody’s Home (Click to Buy) - Nobody’s Home is the first full length album project from the UK artist who made his solo debut with the 2018 mixtape Badkid and subsequently released the six track EP Will You Be My Yellow? in September of 2019. Bakar's music is a melting pot of indie, rap, rock, and punk and the young musician even labeled his music style as "schizophrenic.” In an interview with Complex, Bakar explained his iconic sound, "If people saw me and presumed the kind of music I make, 90% of them would say rap or hip-hop. I could be on every single playlist and feel at home there.”
Spoon - Lucifer on the Sofa (Click to Buy) - Spoon returns with their 10th LP, Lucifer on the Sofa this week. The Austin, TX band returned to the city of their birth to record this one and it feels like a bit of a renaissance. This one has some darker corners, but the quirkiness of Spoon and their pop songcraft shine right through. I wasn’t as enamored with their previous LP, Hot Thoughts, so I was glad when this one immediately hit me. Don’t skip out on this one as it’s likely to top many Best of 2022 lists.
Corrosion of Conformity - Deliverance (Click To Order) - 1994’s Deliverance found COC going full on Sabbath and laying down massive sludgy riffs. Most of the songs on the album are built on monolithic power chords which range from ferocious speed on "Heaven's Not Overflowing" and "Senor Limpio" to slower, groovier numbers such as "Broken Man" and leadoff single "Albatross." Second single "Clean My Wounds" also struck gold at rock radio with its staccato riffing, and "Seven Days" adds eerie guitar melodies to the mix. I absolutely love this album and have waited a long time for this to get a reissue.
Dashboard Confessional - All That Truth That I Can Tell (Click to Order) - Dashboard Confessional's ninth studio album, All The Truth That I Can Tell, is both a remarkable renewal and fortunate step forward for the band's songwriter, front man, and founder, Chris Carrabba. All The Truth That I Can Tell stands among Carrabba's finest - a strikingly potent musical look at himself through a rediscovered keyhole, both an achievement of vision and a vital burst of artistic clarity; less like reading someone's diary and more like reading their eyes. I fell out with this band for a few years, but recently went back and rediscovered their earlier albums. I’m not sure they can recapture that feel, but I'm willing to find out.
Tears For Fears - The Tipping Point (Click To Order) - Some forty years into one of music's most impactful partnerships, Tears For Fears have arrived together at The Tipping Point - the group's ambitious, accomplished and surprising first new studio album in nearly two decades. An inspired song cycle that vividly recalls the depth and emotional force of the group's earliest triumphs, The Tipping Point is the bold, beautiful and powerful sound of Tears For Fears finding themselves together all over again. If this album is even 1/4th as good as Tears of Love, it will be amazing.
Sturgill Simpson - The Ballad of Dood & Juanita (Click To Order) - Another victim of the massive backup at vinyl plants across the globe, Sturgill Simpson’s new album, got bumped from December 3 to February 25. Inspired by such classic concept albums as Willie Nelson's Red-Headed Stranger, Sturgill Simpson's The Ballad of Dood & Juanita is the Grammy-winning singer/songwriter's third album in twelve months, and his most ambitious project to date. Written and recorded in less than a week, and featuring the same ace musicians who played on last year's Cuttin' Grass albums, the record tells a classic American story of a Civil War-era couple torn apart by violence and reunited by love, what Simpson calls "a simple tale of either redemption or revenge."
Scorpions - Rock Believer (Click To Order) - Legendary rockers Scorpions return with their new album Rock Believer created in the studio during the lockdown in Hannover. The new album has massive energy, delivers a real adrenaline rush and shows uncompromising quality. 16 new tracks that still sound like those classic Scorpions albums of old. I’m not sure how many people still eagerly wait for the next Scorpions album, but I’m sure theyre excited about this one.
