New Releases For July 16th

AFI - Bodies

One of my favorite bands, AFI, return on July 16th with their eleventh album, Bodies. I’ve enjoyed the singles so far, but AFI albums never really show you everything until you listen to it as a whole piece. Definitely mining some 80’s sounds, this should be an interesting followup to The Blood Album.

Black Pumas - Capitol Cuts (Live From Studio A)

Recorded direct to acetate - all live, no overdubs - Capitol Cuts - Live from Studio A captures a powerful moment in time. After months of cancelled shows Black Pumas went to Los Angeles this past fall & laid down 8 explosive tracks at the famed Capitol Studio A. The recording brims with pent up energy, nearly bursting through the grooves on the expansive & mind-blowing 7 minute rendition of "Colors." I’m glad to see this band put out something to follow up their debut album, which is approaching its 20th vinyl pressing.

John Mayer - Sob Rock

I’ll start off by saying that John Mayer isn’t really my thing, but millions of fans love whatever he does. He’s been a light rock radio guy, a blue guitarist, part of Dead & Co. and has even ventured down in the Laurel Canyon sound for a period of time and he’s been successful in all of these genres. Sob Rock is his 8th LP and features what may be the most 1980’s looking album cover since the 80’s.

Opeth - Blackwater Park

A much-deserved and open armed 20th anniversary celebration of Opeth's magnum opus. Two decades in and still a breath-taking piece of work, dense with extraordinary melodic moments, spine-tingling atmospherics and agile but crushing heaviness, and one that saw the Swedish metallers kick open prog's ornate doors, fed death metal through the cosmic kaleidoscope and introduced a generation of music nerds to a world of limitless musical possibilities. The reissue comes lovingly pressed onto heavyweight, audiophile approved vinyl, with a variety of deluxe finishes, and housed in a gatefold artwork sleeve, with updated liner notes and acknowledgements
