Ear of the Dragon is the result of a collaboration between saxophonist and bass clarinetist Toine Thys and Japanese double bassist Motoï Kanamori. A deep connection, forged by shared sincerity and precision in performance, developed between the two musicians across borders and cultures. Toine Thys's musical world is distinguished as much by his strong artistic personality as by his desire to explore soundscapes shaped by diverse geographical and cultural influences with a strong affinity for electronic music. Following his meeting in 2024 with Japanese double bassist Motoï Kanamori, the duo decided to join forces to present a repertoire of original compositions. To bring this new group to life, Toine Thys and Motoï Kanamori called upon the elite of the new generation of Belgian jazz musicians. On piano, the prodigious Wajdi Riahi brings a recognized harmonic richness and inventiveness that have already won over audiences both as a soloist and in ensembles. On drums, Portuguese drummer Diogo Alexandre is unanimously praised for his intensity and musicality.
