RSD2020 Must Have List from the Man, the Myth, the Legend, Matt

5 Record Store Day Must Haves

This years RSD list is filled with big releases and must haves, but I want to shine a light on 5 titles that you may want to pick up at Curious Collections on April 19th.  All of these titles are seeing their first vinyl release on RSD, so be sure to check each one out.

Billie Eilish - Live at Third Man Records

There may not be a bigger star right now than Billie Eilish and this live album is a definite must have.  Recorded live and direct to acetate at Third Man Records in Nashville, this 10 song live album is on blue vinyl and comes with a poster.  This one is exclusive to RSD, so if you want it, you better grab one!

David Bowie - I’m Only Dancing (The Soul Tour 74)

Over the past few Record Store Days, there have been some fantastic Bowie releases, but this is one that I’ve really been looking for.  The Soul Tour in 1974 was done over three legs and each leg featured a very different sound and band. This live album is from the third leg of that tour, which is widely regarded as some of the best live shows Bowie put on in the 70’s.  This one is my top title for this RSD.

I’m Only Dancing (The Soul Tour 74) follows on from the previous Record Store Day 2 LP release Cracked Actor (Live Los Angeles ’74) and is an incredible historical document of a performer and band at the height of their live powers. The artwork for both the 2 LP and 2 CD releases is based on the original design for the programmes available at venues for dates on The Soul Tour.  The Soul Tour has taken a on mythical status among Bowie fans, as the tour only visited 17 cities in the East and South of US. This is the first time that any audio from this incarnation of the tour has ever been officially released.

Fleetwood Mac - The Alternate Rumours

The “Alternate” series has become an RSD staple, and The Alternate Rumours will be a fantastic addition to that.  This won’t be the first Alternate Fleetwood Mac album, as they previously released an alternate version of Tango In The Night for 2018’s RSD.

The album of alternate takes mirroring the original album, from the Rumours deluxe edition. Alternate takes include early versions and alternate versions for “Gold Dust Woman”, “The Chain”, “Don’t’ Stop”, “Dreams” and “Second Hand News”.  On vinyl for the very first time.

Side 1 - 1. SECOND HAND NEWS (Alternate) 2.DREAMS (Alternate) 3.NEVER GOING BACK AGAIN (Acoustic Duet) 4.DON’T STOP (Alternate) 5.GO YOUR OWN WAY (Alternate) 6.SONGBIRD (Alternate)

Side 2 - 1. THE CHAIN (DEMO) 2. YOU MAKE LOVING FUN (ALTERNATE) 3. I DON'T WANT TO KNOW (EARLY TAKE) 4. OH DADDY (EARLY TAKE) 5. GOLD DUST WOMAN (EARLY TAKE)

Post Malone - Hollywood’s Bleeding

Post Malone’s third album, Hollywood’s Bleeding was released on September 6, 2019, but this is its’ first release on vinyl.  The album hit #1 on the Billboard Charts as did the single “Circles” with two other singles hitting the top 3 in the US. If you’re a fan of his and own a turntable, you’ve been eagerly awaiting this one.

Post Malone stirs a mix of genres into his own sonic sound that’s both intoxicating and invigorating. 2019 was packed with one milestone and achievement after another for Post Malone and with his latest album, Hollywood’s Bleeding, the artist broke through to new levels of stardom. Now, for the first time on vinyl, the album will be released on a double LP set for Record Store Day. Includes Post’s smash singles like “Saint-Tropez”, “Circles”, “Wow.”, and “Sunflower”.

Tyler the Creator - Cherry Bomb

Cherry Bomb, the 2015 album from Tyler the Creator, is finally seeing its first Vinyl release this Record Store Day.  This one features a little bit of everything, sound-wise, and has something for everyone. It’s hard to imagine this one not going fast, so grab one ASAP.

Though it was released with almost no advance promotion, Tyler, The Creator’s 2015 album Cherry Bomb was anything but unplanned. The fourth album from the Odd Future co-founder remains one of his most ambitious, featuring everything from lush orchestras to hard-driving guitars across its grooves (plus standout guest verses from Kanye West, Lil Wayne, ScHoolboy Q and others). Now, the album Tyler told Billboard was “the music I’ve always wanted to make” is available on vinyl for the first time, and exclusively on translucent red vinyl at record stores for Record Store Day 2020.
